Player Talent Evaluation:
 
Our highly-skilled talent consultants will give descriptive and unbiased evaluations of a player's abilities and potential in the areas of: mechanical skill workinjury potential,muscular communication, and general composure. A program is prescribed following evaluation.  The athlete can perform the program on his or her own or through the Boston Softball Institute with professional guidance from coaches who will drastically improve each player's game.  We also recommend athletes to college and/or preparatory school programs that are a match to the talent and academic abilities of the athlete.
 
Mechanical Skill-specific Evaluation
 
The mechanics of softball, particularly the pitching motion, are unlike any other sport.  This requires a knowledge and execution of specific techniques.  Muscle memory is the key to greatness, but also to failure. As in all areas of life, repeating correct things over and over will lead to success; repeating destructive things will lead to perpetual failure. BSI will evaluate a player's mechanics and recommend ways to improve his or her game no matter the obstacle.
 
*Throwing Consultation: 
 
In the face of popular belief, one does not throw a softball with the arm, one throws the softball with the BODY, and thus she actually throws the ball with her LEGS. New England has amazing softball talent, but it is constantly squandered through injury, lack of development, and a black-hole of knowledge. Not anymore. As soon as a player experiences pain in her shoulder or arm, immediately make an appointment to see Marc Hordon, our Resident Master Throwing Consultant, disciple of John Davies who has worked with throwers such as Drew Brees, Eli Manning, Ben Roesthlesburger, and Brett Farve. Injury Prevention
 
Injuries come in many forms in softball, but there are some areas that are constantly nagging at the heels of all ball players: Groin/Hip-Flexors, Hamstrings, Shoulders, Knees, Lower Backs, and Ankles. Each of these areas is at high risk in the game of softball, and often when one injury is experienced, shortly thereafter another one follows and the dominoes fall. BSI has the strength & conditioning and injury-prevention know-how to identify weaknesses in the muscular infrastructure and provide programs to combat imbalances with simple, repeatable exercises done in conjunction with power and performance exercises. We expose weakness, strengthen it, and decrease the chance of injury as we enhance whole-body explosiveness.
 
diet rEVOLUTION
 
Diet is one of the most often overlooked pieces of athletic performance. How athletes eat directly affects the way they live.  The way we have been taught to eat is not only generally unhealthy, but a barrier to athletic success.
Through diet rEVOLUTION, we work with players to erase years of damaging information about "proper" nutrition and create a new successful eating paradigm that serves their athletic goals AND promotes enduring good health, freedom from disease, and consistency in energy. Athletes at BIS have the opportunity to work with a Certified Sports Nutrition Manager (NOT a traditional nutritionist) to design a tailored meal program according to their body type, athletic goals, vulnerabilities, and activity regimen.
Institute members participating in diet rEVOLUTION will receive a five or seven day day meal plan (dependent on program) as well as weekly accountability meetings with their Certified Nutrition Manager. Each week, athletes will review what worked, where challenges are, and be held accountable to their nutritional commitments. Through this process, athletes will learn the proper dynamics of eating so they can eventually design and adapt their OWN eating program WITHOUT oversight, as physical needs change and evolve over time. diet rEVOLUTION helps soccer players succeed as athletes by first teaching them, then supporting them, and finally, tailoring the new paradigm to their unique life and athletic goals.
